EMA research discovered a shift in the broad IT initiatives that drive network management priorities. Two years ago, server virtualization was the dominant driver, while network teams looked for ways to support the vast amount of workload consolidation that drove up east-west bandwidth demands in their data centers. Now, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), private clouds and software-defined data centers are all top of mind for network teams. Network operations teams say that many of these initiatives, particularly hybrid clouds and private clouds, are especially difficult to manage and support.
“Digital transformation is fully underway, and the network and its management have an important role to play,” said Kevin Conklin, Vice President of Product Marketing and Content at Ipswitch. “The vast majority of organizations now rely on cloud-based infrastructure, applications or services. Managing these hybrid cloud and on-premises environments is a challenge. Ipswitch’s WhatsUp Gold® network monitoring is helping businesses get complete, centralized visibility into the status of their networks – devices, systems and applications – whether they are in the cloud or on-premises. ”
According to the report, in the average enterprise, 45 percent of all network traffic is traceable to public cloud services, and 88 percent of network managers say they are monitoring and troubleshooting public cloud services. Network managers need a tool strategy to address these changes, particularly hybrid cloud and private cloud architectures.
